Paid Time Off

At the State of Ohio, we understand how important a work-life balance is which is why we offer all exempt and union-represented employees a generous paid time off package.

SICK

Exempt and union-represented employees accumulate sick leave each pay period. Exempt and union-represented employees, except employees represented by SEIU District 1199, accumulate 3.1 hours per pay period, for a total of 80 hours per year. Employees in SEIU District 1199 accumulate 2.77 hours per pay period, for a total of 72 hours per year.

VACATION

Vacation leave is accrued each pay period. The Department of Administrative Services provides a chart of accrual rates and maximum accumulation allowed.

PERSONAL LEAVE

Exempt and union-represented employees accrue personal leave each year. The amount of leave and accrual varies. The Department of Administrative Services provides a chart of accrual rates and maximum accumulation allowed.

CHILDBIRTH / ADOPTION / FOSTER CARE LEAVE

If you are a permanent employee who works an average of at least 30 hours per week, you are eligible for childbirth/adoption/foster care leave upon the birth or adoption of your child. Upon completion of a 14-day waiting period, new parents will receive up to four weeks of leave paid at 70 percent of their regular rate of pay. Eligible parents may use any accrued leave or may choose to work to supplement their leave up to 100 percent of their regular rate of pay. Union-represented employees also should refer to their collective bargaining agreement for additional information.
